Independent Student Analysis (ISA)

University of Connecticut School of Medicine Independent Student Analysis (ISA)

The School of Medicine (SOM) is preparing for its Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation visit in early 2026. The Independent Student Analysis (ISA) is a major component of the accreditation process. The ISA is a student-led survey of medical students in all years of the curriculum that captures students’ perceptions of their medical school. Survey participation from each class is important to identify areas of institutional strengths and areas for improvement.

The ISA Executive Committee formed in the Fall of 2024 to lead the ISA, with guidance from advisor, Shayna Cunningham, PhD. The ISA Executive Committee includes students in all years of the curriculum. Committee membership was determined from student applications, input from SOM leadership, and peer-recommendations. This Executive Committee is responsible for designing the survey (which includes a minimum of 75 LCME-required questions), conducting the survey, analyzing the response data, and preparing the data tables and narrative of the ISA report.

The ISA Executive Committee expects to conduct the survey in early 2025 and ultimately prepare their comprehensive ISA report with survey findings, analysis, and recommendations, which will be submitted to the LCME as part of the institution’s survey packet at the end of 2025.

Stay tuned for ISA related news and updates throughout 2025 and 2026!
